A new report released Tuesday by the state Department of Education reveals that four Bronx schools are considered by officials to be ?persistently dangerous.? The state released the names of the schools it says have a high number of violent incidents. The Lewis and Clark School is among the public schools on the list. P.S. 17, P.S. 721 Steven McSweeney School and P.S. 754 the J.M. Rapport School for Career Development also made the list. The Board of Education says the schools are considered ?persistently dangerous? because they have had numerous serious incidents occur two years in a row. Bronx residents who live near the Lewis and Clark School say the students are often violent and put neighbors at risk.Officials say parents of the children at all the at-risk schools will be notified and given an option to transfer their kids to a safer school. The Bronx schools on the list are also required to come up with new safety plans.
