The attorney general?s office found four stores still selling recalled toys.
State investigators made surprise inspections at 41 stores this month, armed with a list of 58 toys recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The surprise investigations were focused on dollar stores due to the economic pinch being felt this season.
?We expect more consumers will look at dollar stores for their purchases than ever before,? says David Szuchman, from the Division of Consumer Affairs.
Among the stores was a Family Dollar on West Market Street in Newark. The store was cited for selling a recalled version of the Little Tikes Chit ?N Chat Toy Phone. The toy had been recalled after being determined as a choking hazard.
Store manager Robert Hylton contends the citation and insists no recalled toys were on his shelves.
