? A former military chaplain and Springfield native is speaking out to clear his name after he was accused of being an enemy combatant.
James Yee, who practices Islam, says he was sent to Guantanamo Bay to advocate the humane treatment of prisoners and to hold religious services. Instead, Yee says he was labeled a traitor because he is a Chinese Muslim. Yee was thrown into a maximum-security prison in South Carolina after he spoke out about prisoners being abused. Yee says one military official called him a ?Chinese Taliban.?
Military officials released Yee from prison 76 days later after their case fell apart. He has written a book to let Americans know he was never a spy and to help the U.S. refocus on the real terrorists.
