The seasonal change is underway across New Jersey as gas prices begin shifting to spring levels, even with snow still on the ground.

AAA says the national average for a gallon of gas increased this week as refineries start producing summer fuel blends. Those blends require pricier additives that help reduce evaporation in warmer weather, and the rise comes as drivers prepare for spring break road trips.

In New Jersey, the average gallon of gas is $2.92. AAA says that’s essentially unchanged from last week, up a penny, and ten cents lower than this time last year.

Warmer temperatures are also on the way, with 50s expected Saturday, a chance for snow Sunday, and 70s projected within two weeks.

AAA says gas prices will continue climbing as the transition to spring fuel blends expands nationwide.

PUMP PATROL New Jersey’s average holds at $2.92 while AAA warns higher gas prices are returning as refineries move to summer fuel ahead of spring travel.
