A fire caused extensive damage to a South Plainfield home early Tuesday morning and forced nearby residents from their home as crews battled the flames.
The fire broke out just before 2 a.m. at a ranch-style home on Crown Avenue.
Officials believe the fire started in the home's attached two-car garage.
The woman who lived in the home was able to escape safely with assistance from firefighters, according to reports from the scene.
Neighboring residents were also evacuated as a precaution while crews worked to contain the blaze.
Video from the scene showed flames shooting high into the air as firefighters battled the fire overnight.
A nearby resident said he was concerned because a large tree sits between the properties, but calm weather helped prevent the flames from spreading.
Firefighters remained at the scene for hours after the initial fire, returning Tuesday morning to deal with lingering hot spots and concerns about a possible rekindle.
Officials said the home contained a significant amount of material, making overhaul operations more challenging.
Heavy equipment was brought in to remove debris and what appeared to be a burned vehicle from the garage area as crews continued searching for hidden hot spots.
Despite the extensive damage, no injuries were immediately reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
