Businesses, craft vendors and the Montclair community came together to celebrate Mother’s Day at a new “MomClair” market.
The indoor flea market was hosted in the newly renovated Lackawanna Plaza. Vendors included jewelry makers, soap makers, candle makers, potters, holistic wellness, clothing, accessories and much more.
“It’s basically a space where creativity, community and all of those things meet as one,” said market coordinator Georgia Simoes.
The space will also be used for various community events, including a toddler rave on June 20. The large space also serves as an indoor public art space and walking gallery.
“My husband asked me what I want to do for Mother’s Day. I told him I actually just want to go to the flea market, that’s all,” said Neisha Negron, of West Orange. “I like seeing the little stores and being here with all the artwork. I didn’t know what to expect so it’s really nice.”
Outside of the big room are what’s called The Little Shops. It includes a co-working space, a local farmers market, woodworking for children and art therapy.
“I think it’s just a support system that we’re providing. It’s a retail outlet. It’s a place for them to sell, to get some feedback on their product. This is so much more than just the sales you’re going to make,” said Simoes.
There are also food and drink options, including Boozie’s Wine Shop and Bar, Little Bear Poké and Burgers Doughnuts Potatoes.
A grand opening event will be held on June 21.
