Many concerned citizens gathered Sunday at the Somerset County courthouse to protest the violence in Dafur. Those who turned out for the ?Save Dafur? rally told attendees to call their local legislators to let the government know the U.S. needs to get involved. One of the speakers, a native of Western Darfur, says without pressure from the U.S. peace cannot succeed in Darfur. The rally was held to coincide with a UN deadline for the Sudanese government rebels to reach a peace deal. The Sudanese government says the rebels rejected the current proposal. African union mediators say they have extended the Darfur peace talks for 48 hours.
