As thousands of New Jersey’s Jewish residents celebrate Rosh Hashana and the High Holy Days, several police departments are ramping up patrols outside of synagogues. This comes in response to Iran’s missile attack on Israel as the conflict in the Middle East continues to escalate.
The Deal Police Department is one of many across the state increasing security protocols out of precautionary measures.
“We put more patrols out on these holidays. This is something that we constantly do. We’re not just doing it for the holidays,” said Lt. William Hulse. “We put more cars out. More officers are on patrol and things like that.”
The department also posted on its Facebook page to remind people to contact the police if they see something suspicious.
“It’s always good just to give us a call. We’ll have officers come out and check it out,” said Lt. Hulse. “There’s a lot of different things that people may feel uncomfortable about. We are always here for the community and we encourage people to call us if they feel uncomfortable about anything.”
