Some Jersey City residents are opposing plans for a September 11th memorial that they say would obstruct views of downtown Manhattan.
Two 30-foot-tall, stainless steel walls, which would span 200 feet, would sit on top of newly built hills in Liberty State Park. Sam Pesin's father helped create the park in the 1950s. Pesin and others feel it's senseless to construct a memorial that would block the site of the terrorist attacks. They're asking Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) to stop construction and restart the design process.
However, some September 11th victims' families, who helped choose the design, say they like it. They also disagree that having such a large memorial would stir intense emotions and additional pain.
