The FIFA Club World Cup is underway across the United States, and MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford is one of the match locations.
Professional club teams went head-to-head on the group stage on Thursday. Brazilian team Palmeiras played Egyptian team Al Ahly.
The stadium was packed, and fans told News 12 they were excited to finally see their favorites play in person.
Fans from all across the world said they couldn't believe the energy and atmosphere at MetLife for Thursday's match. They were proud to share who they were rooting for.
Some traveled internationally, just to see the club teams up close.
A local resident, who is a lifelong fan of Al Ahly, was grateful for the opportunity to watch his team.
"I'm from Astoria, Queens but I'm Egyptian," said Mohammad. "I'm a huge Ahly fan, my family is a huge Ahly fan. I've been since I was a kid, so to have them over here feels amazing. This is my first time seeing them live."
Fans were also happy the games were so accessible.
The group round continues. The next match will take place at MetLife Stadium on Saturday.
The tournament continues through July 13.
