FORECAST:
Wildfire smoke in Ocean County is moving southwards along the coast this morning into Atlantic and Cape May counties due to a light northerly wind. As temperatures warm this afternoon a sea breeze slowly develops and by noon, the wind will begin to waft the smoke northward into Monmouth County.
The afternoon wind will be between 10-15 mph from the south-southeast. Smoky conditions permeate into central NJ, Middlesex, Union, Somerset, Hunterdon, and even Warren counties through tonight and tomorrow. Air quality will be reduced in areas where the smoke stays low to the ground in Ocean County.
If you can smell smoke, the particles themselves are in your community. Add the high levels of tree pollen, and now there's a double whammy. It's best to keep windows closed and air conditioning on to filter the air inside your home if you are close to the fire in Ocean County.
Temperatures this afternoon approach near 75 degrees under a mostly sunny sky. The weather will be fine elsewhere across the state.
Tonight's low will be in the mid-50s, which is comfortable.
Tomorrow's weather will be warm inland and cool at the coast with the sea breeze again.
Friday will start sunny with afternoon clouds. Highs near 77.
Moderate rain showers arrive for Saturday with a small chance for thunderstorms.
