An 11-year-old Keansburg girl who was found stabbed to death was laid to rest Monday.
Funeral services for AbbieGail Smith began at 10:15 a.m. at Saint Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Keansburg.
Police said AbbieGail’s body was found wrapped in a blanket on a roof behind the apartment complex where she was reported missing from less than 24 hours beforehand.
The Monmouth County medical examiner said AbbieGail died as the result of a stab wound to her neck.
A neighbor, 18-year-old Andreas Erazo, has been charged in connection with her death. Erazo's bail hearing is set for Wednesday.
Smith's father and half-sister, who live in Jamaica, each issued a plea to President Donald Trump to allow them to attend AbbieGail’s funeral. However, visas for both of them were denied. Kenroy Smith, AbbieGail’s father, said he was denied because he was deported from the U.S. after a marijuana arrest 16 years ago.
Abigail will be buried at Bayview Cemetery in the Leonardo section of Middletown.
