A New Jersey singer who went into cardiac arrest during a performance met the person who saved his life on Sunday.
Many around New Jersey know Russ Martone as an entertainer. He performs Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and other classic tunes.
Martone suffered a heart attack and went into cardiac arrest while performing at Uncle Giuseppe's in Ramsey. Former EMT William Kelly happened to be shopping there and sprang into action.
Kelly performed CPR until an ambulance arrived. He said he was the only one in the store who knew how to do it.
Six weeks later, Martone is doing remarkably well. He is even looking forward to performing again when he is able.
Martone met Kelly at Madison Park Banquet Hall in Parlin after he left the hospital. Their families are now forever connected.
“We take everything for granted. We all sweat the little things in life, every one of us. It's baloney. I realize now, everything is superficial," Martone said. "This guy is the miracle worker. This guy, he’s a total gift.”
William stressed the importance of CPR training, saying it is very easy to find local training on the Red Cross website.
