Singer Dionne Warwick has enough hits to land her on almost anyone's playlist...songs going back to the 1960s when the East Orange native rose to stardom with "Walk On By” and "I Say A Little Prayer." On Saturday, she will turn 80 years old.
Warwick is looking ahead to the future by teaming with Chance the Rapper. After a playful exchange with the rapper on Twitter about his stage name, the two performers will team up to record a song together.
She has been busy on Twitter, even chiding followers who were wondering if she writes her own posts.
“This is for all you tweeters out there who have decided I’m not tweeting my own stuff to you,” Warwick said in a Twitter video.
Since the pandemic is preventing Warwick from a public celebration for her birthday, she is going to hold a virtual event on Saturday to sing some Christmas songs with friends and chat live with fans.
“There’ll be music. We’ll be singing live to the duets that we did with Johnny Mathis, Aloe Blacc, Chloe and Halle,” she says.
Some of the proceeds from the event's tickets sold through Warwick's website will benefit “Hunger: Not Impossible,” a nonprofit helping those in need to receive free meals.
"Why don't I do something for me that I do every year, which is give myself a gift. And that is the gift of giving. And I’m asking everybody who is part of my party to take part in giving,” Warwick says.
