A social media threat prompted a lockdown at the Morris County School of Technology in Denville, leaving some students and parents on edge.

According to police, the social media threat led to a lockdown around 7:40 a.m.

Police from multiple agencies responded, and have since determined there was no threat.

Some parents heard what was going on through social media and showed up at the scene. Some were also texted by their own kids.

Many students just arriving to school were rerouted. Parsippany students being transported on buses were sent to Parsippany Hills High School and are safely there.

Kids that drive were turned around or just parked up the road.

The districts are on high alert, especially as a result of the school shooting this weekend in the Denver area.

While the Denville Police Department conducts its investigation, it will have an increased police presence at area schools. The increased presence is strictly precautionary and no threats have been made toward any school in the district.

News 12 New Jersey is being told by parents the students are being ushered into the gym and given the choice to stay in school today or go home.
