The Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge is looking for someone to adopt two dogs that are best friends.
Roscoe, a 4 ½-year-old basset hound, and Clover, a 7-year-old corgi-Lab mix, were both rescued from Louisiana.
Roscoe was found on the streets and Clover was rescued from a hoarding situation. Less than a year ago, both dogs were brought to the refuge because it is a no-kill shelter. While there, the two dogs became inseparable.
"I have never seen two dogs that have gravitated and bonded toward each other like these two," says Jayne O'Connor, a trainer at the shelter.
The staff believe that both dogs bonded over a shared history of abuse. They are hoping the dogs can be adopted out together by a home with only adult women.
"I don't know what happened to them, but whatever it was, it was bad enough that neither of them can be around men," O'Connor says.
Roscoe and Clover were engaged on Valentine's Day. Anyone interested in adopting the pair should contact the Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge at 201-337-5180.
