Detectives say they?ve arrested a convicted sex offender for breaking into a home and trying to sexually assault a 5-year-old girl in Pompton Plains.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi says 27-year-old Timothy Iberer, a convicted sex offender, is the person who broke into a home on Kinney Place and terrorized the girl and her family two weeks ago. Bianchi says he believes Iberer targeted his victim. He also says the victim claims Iberer was in her room at least three times, including the night in question.
Court documents reveal fingerprints lifted from the girl?s bedroom are what led police to Iberer. The suspect had served four years in an Avenel adult diagnostic and treatment center for sexually assaulting an 8-year-old child in 2002.
Iberer is now facing charges of second-degree burglary, second-degree attempted sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
