A man is in custody this morning after being accused of vandalizing several Morris County churches with African-American congregations.
According to prosecutors, the incidents happened overnight Friday into Saturday in Morristown.
The churches targeted were Church of God in Christ for All Saints, Bethel A.M.E. Church, Calvary Baptist Church, Union Baptist Church and Morristown Church of Christ.
Investigators say a surveillance video from Church of God in Christ for All Saints helped lead them to 45-year-old Zuri Towns of Morristown.
Towns attended services at one of the churches when he was younger.
He is charged with several counts of criminal mischief.
Prosecutors say the vandalism included a broken stained glass window and damaged exterior signs.
Gov-elect Phil Murphy tweeted, "Disgusted by reported vandalism of African-American churches across Morristown. These cowardly acts will not shake our faith. They will renew our determination to come together as one New Jersey."
