(03/28/06) FRANKLIN ? Police in Somerset County are warning residents about a string of car break-ins that have taken place near the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park.

According to police, the thieves have been smashing through car windows in order to snatch valuables left in plain sight. Although police patrols have been beefed up throughout the area, residents aren?t taking any chances. Many individuals are leaving valuable items at home or locking them in the trunk while inside park grounds.

Authorities urge residents to lock car doors before leaving their vehicles. In addition, they suggest parking in well-lit areas and keeping valuables out of plain sight.
