Weeks after Gov. Jon Corzine tapped Attorney General Stuart Rabner as the next state Supreme Court chief justice, the full Senate approved his nomination.
The Senate approved both Rabner as chief justice and Anne Milgram as the new attorney general Thursday. Senators spent almost four hours asking Rabner how he would handle leading the state?s highest court.
?I have been extremely fortunate to have a varied career in public service where I?ve set out to do the right thing,? Rabner said at his confirmation hearing.
Meanwhile, Senator Nia Gill cleared up reports she was trying to stop the confirmation. Gill said she needed more time to learn about Rabner and his experience.
?At no time did I ever block this nomination. What I was doing was due diligence,? Gill said.
