Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) warned shoppers today to be aware of hidden fees when purchasing pre-paid debit or gift cards. During his visit to Garden State Plaza in Paramus, Menendez also told consumers that many cards that have an attractive logo or a celebrity's photo can carry additional fees. He is proposing federal legislation that would prohibit such hidden fees, as well as require protection for consumers in case a card is lost or stolen.
