Sen. Andy Kim said he was pepper-sprayed during protests Monday outside Delaney Hall, a private ICE jail, and later spoke out about conditions he witnessed inside the facility.

Kim said he had to personally reach out to DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin to gain entry to Delaney Hall. He said the private prison contractor does not want Congress to see how it is cutting back.

“GEO Group got upwards of close to a billion-dollar contract to be able to run Delaney Hall. They could hire more doctors if they wanted to, but that's going to cut into GEO Group's profits. They could get better food there, but that's going to cut into GEO Group's profits," said Kim.

"So you know this is a situation where not only is ICE getting a blank check from this Republican-led Congress and the Trump administration, but GEO Group's basically getting a blank check here without the accountability.”
