Security around Yankee Stadium was stepped up Wednesday for Game 1 of the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Some fans said the Yankees sent a message via Facebook telling them to leave behind bags and coolers and to arrive early because of the increased security. In addition to World Series preparations, security was heightened because First lady Michelle Obama attended the game.
Meanwhile, during the day, Mayor Michael Bloomberg joined Yankees greats and hundreds of die-hard fans at a pep rally in Times Square.
Fans got World Series memorabilia for free and had the opportunity to sign a giant Joba Chamberlain jersey and sing baseball tunes.
