Security expected to be tight for Whitney Houston's funeral service
Security is expected to be ramped up for the private funeral services to be held Saturday in Newark for Whitney Houston.
Starting at 7 a.m., the city will close Central Avenue between Norfolk and Hoyt streets, Norfolk Street between Central and Sussex avenues, Nesbitt Street between Orange and Hoyt streets and James Street, Martin Luther King Boulevard and Nesbitt Street.
Newark officials say extra police will be on hand to help control the large crowd expected at the event.
The service will be at New Hope Baptist Church, where Houston sang as a child. She will be buried in Fair View Cemetery in Westfield, where her father, John Russell Houston Jr., was buried in 2003.
Video of Saturday's funeral service will be provided. News 12 New Jersey will air the service live on News12.com and on iPhone, iPad and Android devices via the News 12 app.
Houston was born in Newark and grew up in East Orange. She died in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Saturday at the age of 48.
