(08/11/06) NEWARK ? Security restrictions sparked by a suspected U.K. airline terror plot caused confusion and crowding at Newark Liberty International Airport Friday.
Although things calmed down in the afternoon, long lines and flustered travelers were evident in the morning. Some residents were still coming to terms with the new restrictions, which include the banning of most liquid items on flights and carry-on size limits. Some people threw out pieces of luggage in an effort to make their flights in the morning.
Many New Jersey residents were also thrilled to see loved ones returning to Newark Liberty from flights overseas. Air travelers say for the most part, delays were minimal and flights ran pretty smoothly.
AAA officials urge flyers to remove all banned items from carry-on bags and place them in their checked luggage prior to arriving at the airport. They also suggest packing items in clear, plastic bags so screeners can easily identify objects.
