First responders from multiple agencies were at the Passaic River in Passaic late Wednesday night searching along the river.
Few details about the incident were available, but News 12 saw boats and a scuba team at the scene.
Witnesses tell News 12 that children may have been playing along the river and fallen in. However, News 12 was not able to independently confirm this statement.
"I will tell you that this river constantly overflows, and this whole area is a flood zone. You would think there would be barriers in place. We need to do better," said Lian Rodriguez. "I have never seen so much attention from police. This hits close to home."
News 12 has reached out to the Passaic Police Department and the mayor's office for details and is awaiting a response.
