As fire investigators continue to probe the cause of Thursday morning's fatal house fire in South Plainfield, a memorial is growing at the site and residents are gathering to donate food and clothing to the family.
The fire on Clinton Avenue claimed the life of a grandmother and four of her grandchildren. The children's mother and three other children managed to escape the flames.
South Plainfield Councilman Alex Barletta organized a food and clothing drive at the Maple Avenue Senior Center for the family.
"I wanted to help the family that their house burned down and some of the people died and, try to help out," Barletta says.
