A Sea Bright family is heartbroken after their beloved dog went missing.
The 17-year-old Markie named Maggie went missing 11 days ago. The family says she ran off from their home. She was spotted on surveillance video close to their home that same day, but the family then lost sight of her.
“We need closure. We need to know where our little girl is. She needs to come home,” says Marisol Rooney.
The family says that they are devastated.
“She is family member for sure and not having her these past few days has been such an eye-opener,” says Rooney. “Take things for granted. Think they are going to be with you forever and I never saw this one coming.”
Maggie was believed to have been last seen on the night of Jan. 14 near her home on Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright.
“As soon as she went out of my sight, I grabbed my jacket to go after her. And it happened that quickly, I searched all her hiding areas. We couldn’t find her,” says Rooney.
The video appears to show a person chasing Maggie. That individual then runs away in the opposite direction. Seconds later, two cars appear to stop. The drivers get out, but then get back into their vehicles and drive off.
Rooney says the family has hired a dog tracker to help with the search. They are also in the process of filing a police report.
“We’ve been reaching out to shelters, doctors, rescues – everybody that we can think of,” says Rooney.
The family says that Maggie’s little sister Rosie is not the same without her.
“Rosie has been constantly checking Maggi’s little ‘condo’ as we call it, for her to come home,” says Rooney.
The family hopes that with a $1,000 reward and the help of the community, Maggie can finally come home.
Rooney owns a deli store and says that in addition to the reward, she will offer 17 meals for the person who finds Maggie – a meal for each year Maggie has been alive.
