Authorities in Union County are investigating after a high school was defaced with racist, anti-Semitic and misogynistic graffiti.
The graffiti was discovered at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School over the weekend. The images included a swastika, racial slurs and hateful language about former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Officials removed the images Saturday morning.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood Regional School District officials say the vandalism was "highly offensive and inflammatory."
Scotch Plains residents who lived near the school say that the messages are shocking and disturbing.
People are very upset, understandably, as am I,” says Drew Weisholtz. “Something like this is disturbing to witness especially first-hand…I have no insight into who it could have been."
Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest New Jersey Chief Executive Dov Ben-Shimon says the organization has reached out to the Scotch Plains Police Department, the Union County Prosecutor's Office and Homeland Security officials.
The prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident.
Anti-Semitic vandalism was also recently found inside an elementary school bathroom in Westfield.
