A Monmouth County high school athletic area had to be sanitized over the weekend after half of the school’s football team came down with a “stomach bug.”
In a letter sent home to parents, Wall Township school officials say that the student athletes experienced intense nausea. Several athletes from other sports came down with similar symptoms as well.
School officials say a cleaning crew sanitized the entire athletic area Sunday and that tests were performed on water sources.
“Football obviously is a contact sport. We had a great event here Friday night for the first football game and dedication of the new scoreboard, so it really was a sad ending to the weekend to have kids home sick,” says Superintendent Cheryl Dyer.
Test results were expected to be back by Tuesday evening.
Most of the sick students were back in school Tuesday.
