It's been eight years since 20 children and six educators were killed in one of America's most horrific tragedies - the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting.
Sen. Chris Murphy held a virtual vigil Monday for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
He was joined by Sen. Richard Blumenthal and Gov. Ned Lamont, along with members of Connecticut Against Gun Violence.
Murphy mentioned the children lost in the shooting would be starting high school.
The virtual event also called for an end to gun violence.
Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz says even though Connecticut has some of the strictest gun laws in America, the state lost over 2,000 people in the last 10 years to gun violence.
