On the fifth anniversary weekend of Superstorm Sandy, an attempt to break a Guinness world record was held in Seaside Park to raise money for storm victims in New Jersey.
An estimated 1,600 people attended the Sandy Angels event at Seaside Park Saturday in an attempt to break the world record for most sand angels made simultaneously.
The record currently stands at 1,387 held by Ludington, Michigan.
Cathy Durante, the executive director of the OceanFirst Bank Foundation, says the event was organized to raise money for people still struggling five years after Superstorm Sandy hit.
Profits raised will go to the Salvation Army and Ocean County Long Term Recovery Group.
The OceanFirst Foundation and New Jersey Natural Gas donated $10 for each of the first 1,500 registrants, and each participant donated $5.
The event raised a total of at least $23,000.
