Protests were held throughout the day Wednesday at two Rutgers University campuses and in Manhattan over the racial comments talk show host Don Imus aimed at the women?s basketball team.
One protest was held in New Brunswick at the Douglass College campus. It featured female speakers, including Eleanor Smeal, the president of the Feminist Majority Foundation, and Charlotte Bunch, a Rutgers professor and executive director of the Center for Women?s Global Leadership at Rutgers.
Another protest was held in Newark at the Rutgers campus and the last protest was held at City Hall in Manhattan.
Imus made racially-charged comments on his radio show a week ago. Since then, he has come under fire from critics and members of the black community who think he should be fired. On Tuesday, the basketball team held a press conference to address the issue and field questions about his comments.
Imus has since apologized, calling his remarks a ?stupid, idiotic mistake.? His two-week suspension begins next week. He will also meet privately with the Rutgers women?s basketball team on Tuesday.
