More information is coming out about Rutgers University football star receiver Leonte Carroo's indefinite suspension from the team.
News 12 New Jersey has learned that Carroo was arrested Saturday night following Rutgers's football game, and charged with simple assault under domestic violence for an incident outside the Hale Center in Piscataway.
Coach Kyle Flood announced Carroo's suspension Sunday, but declined to give details of the incident.
The Rutgers University Police Department is investigating the incident involving Carroo. Anyone who might have any information about the assault is urged to contact them.
The Scarlet Knights lost to Washington State 37-34 on Saturday. This season has started with numerous off-the-field troubles.
The university is investigating Flood for allegedly sending an impermissible email to a professor about a player's academic status. Rutgers has dismissed six players from the team after they were arrested in connection with a string of home invasions and an assault.
Athletic Director Julie Hermann released a statement to the media about the most recent arrest.
Hermann said in part, "Earlier today I joined Coach Flood, met with the football team and delivered a message about personal accountability and the responsibility to be caretakers of Rutgers Football and everything it represents,"
Hermann continued, "As the leader of the Athletic Department, I felt it was important to meet with the players to express my profound disappointment over recent issues involving the program, but at the same time make the team fully aware that they have my unwavering support."
Leonte Carroo was also suspended for the first half of the team's first game of the season for a team violation.
