Rutgers University is honoring the late Lt. Gov. Shelia Oliver.
The Center for Politics and Race in America at Rutgers Newark was named after Oliver.
Current Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way was at the ceremony, along with Oliver’s family and members of the Shelia Y. Oliver Civic Association.
The center was established last year with state funding. It not only hosts political research but also offers resources for under-represented students seeking careers in government.
Oliver died last year due to an undisclosed medical issue. She was 71 years old.
