A Morris County teen is among a group of people being praised for saving the life of an unresponsive driver.
Chris Caccavella says that he was driving on Route 10 on his way to Roxbury High School Monday morning when he passed by a man slumped over and barely breathing behind the wheel of his car.
“I was thinking he was dead. It was a scary sight to see,” Caccavella says.
Caccavella called 911 to get first responders. Meanwhile, another person had also stopped to see what was happening.
“Another guy came, who’s a surgeon, who broke the window and pulled him out of the car and started doing CPR,” Caccavella says.
Caccavella says that the surgeon smashed the window with a golf club in order to get the unresponsive driver out of the vehicle. A third person also came over to assist before paramedics arrived.
The driver was revived and taken to the hospital for treatment.
“I don’t see myself as a hero, but I did help. That’s all I can say,” Caccavella says.
Caccavella says that Roxbury police officers actually called his school to let them know why he was going to be late to class.
