ROCKAWAY, N.J. (AP) -- A pet adoption agency has been temporarily closed following a complaint by a woman who adopted a puppy that became ill a few days later.
NJ.com reports Annie's Pooch and Pups at the Rockaway Townsquare mall was temporarily closed last week.
A Rockaway Township health officer says the closing came after a complaint by Michele Nardino.
Nardino says she adopted a puppy in November that became ill five days later and was diagnosed with parvovirus, a highly contagious virus.
Health officer Peter Tabbot says Nardino's complaint caused the township to send two specialists to the facility where "records reflected conditions of parvovirus among three additional dogs."
Tabbot says the facility will remain closed while it's cleaned.
Annie's Pooch and Pups says it was not in violation of any health codes.

This report initially incorrectly stated the name of the agency in question as Eleventh Hour Rescue. The owners of Annie's Pooch and Pups also run the rescue.
