Ridley Scott, Sigourney Weaver praise North Bergen HS production of ‘Alien The Play’
Some big names in Hollywood are praising a Hudson County high school’s stage production of the movie “Alien.”
Students at North Bergen High School put on the play based on the 1979 film using a small budget and recycled props. Photos and video of the performance went viral on social media due to the detailed set pieces and costumes.
The performances caught the attention of some of the actors and creators of the original movie.
Actress Sigourney Weaver, who portrays the character “Ripley” in the film franchise, posted a video message to the crew on the official “Alien Anthology” YouTube page.
"I saw a bit of your production of ‘Alien’, I just want to say it looked incredible. You put so much heart and soul into that…I just wanted to send our compliments - not only from me, but from James Cameron (who directed the 1986 sequel) and the original screenwriter Walter Hill. We all say, 'Bravo. Well done,’” Weaver said.
Director Ridley Scott sent the drama club a letter also praising the production. He also stated that his company would donate some finances to help fund an encore performance of the stage play.
Scott also suggested that the drama club put on a production of “Gladiator” next – based on his 2000 film starring Russell Crowe.
