The winds were so strong overnight that a large tree came crashing down onto a home in a Ridgefield apartment complex.

The tree fell on Bruce Street around 1:30 a.m. Thursday, while a family was sleeping.

The impact caused part of the roof to collapse on 18-year-old Gael Okudzeto.

His father, Rubicon Okudzeto, said he heard a loud noise and his son shouting for help.

Gael was taken to the hospital but says he doesn’t have a scratch and feels lucky to be alive.

The gusty winds, which reached 40 to 45 mph, also caused thousands of power outages across the state.
