Former neighbors of the man accused of being the Mad Hatter bank robber are relieved about his expected guilty plea Wednesday.
Officials say James Madison, of Maplewood, plans to admit in federal court to robbing several New Jersey banks. Madison is accused of robbing up to 18 banks, wearing a different hat each time.
Madison was arrested on July 23 after detectives matched his pictures from MySpace to a bank surveillance video. At the time, he denied robbing banks. He was charged with just one count of bank robbery.
His former neighbors say they hope Madison gets convicted in the robberies. They say he should spend a lot of time in jail for the accused thefts.
