(03/02/06) HAMILTON ? Residents in one Hamilton community are worried about the environmental impact of a nearby construction project.
The construction site in question is located on property formerly owned by American Standard. The site was already undergoing cleanup for contamination problems. Now, residents have learned the developer trucked in concrete tainted with PCB chemicals for use in a landfill. They fear the introduction of the PCB-laden concrete will hurt the health of those living near the project.
The concrete being used for the project was taken from the demolished Ford plant in Edison. The developer claims the material was labeled as ?unrestrictive use,? which means the fill could be used for any purpose. However, Ford representatives claim they informed the developer about the condition of the material. Ford is removing the material from the site under Department of Environmental Protection supervision.
