Bloomfield celebrated day two of its Juneteenth Festival on Saturday.
Residents enjoyed local vendors, food and music at Bloomfield Center. Families could also watch spoken word performances and dancers.
Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. says he was trying to take in as many Juneteenth celebrations as possible. He says more needs to be done in the country, especially to appease those who say recognizing Juneteenth as a holiday isn't enough.
"We have to take the first step. All of this wasn't created in one night and it's not going to be rectified in one night, but you keep moving forward in a progressive manner until you get to the goal,” he says.
Juneteenth is the 12th federal holiday to be added to the calendar. There hasn’t been an addition of a federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was recognized in 1983.
