Reports of an armed person on the Ramapo College campus in Mahwah have been determined to be “unfounded,” according to Mahwah police.
The lockdown went into effect Thursday evening.
An emergency alert sent to students told everyone on campus to seek shelter indoors and lock or barricade the doors. All those not on campus were urged to stay away.
Mahwah police say that while it appears that campus is safe, the lockdown remains in place while officers continue a search “out of an abundance of caution.”
