In the coming days, the White House is expected to issue guidance to the Pentagon on how to implement a ban on transgender people serving in the military, according to a report published Thursday in The Wall Street Journal.
Back in July, President Donald Trump tweeted that he would reinstate the ban. The Wall Street Journal reported that Defense Secretary Jim Mattis will have to consider such a policy soon.
Officials familiar with a two-and-a-half page White House Memo told The Wall Street Journal that the White House will direct the Pentagon to deny transgender people admittance into the military. It also directs the Pentagon to stop spending on medical treatment
In its guidance, Defense Security Jim Mattis would have six months to fully implement the ban, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Officials said Mattis is asked to consider a service member’s deployability, meaning the ability to serve in a warzone, when considering to separate service members from the military.
