According to NOAA fisheries, humpback whale deaths have gone up along the Atlantic coast since 2016.
The event was declared an Unusual Mortality Event in April of 2017.

As News 12 has reported, just days ago a 28-foot-long humpback washed ashore at Robert Moses State Park.
Preliminary findings revealed the whale suffered hemorrhaging consistent with blunt force trauma.
The Atlantic Marine Conservation Society says a full necropsy will still be performed.
