Nearly 170 migrants who crossed into the United States illegally are being held at New Jersey detention facilities, according to a report on
NorthJersey.com.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Emilio Dabul told the newspaper that 168 detainees are being held in the Essex County Jail and the Elizabeth immigration facility. This is in addition to the 235 people sent to ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in New York last month, some of whom were then held in New Jersey pending their immigration proceedings.
Dabul said that 78 of the detainees were held at the Elizabeth center, and 90 were held at the Essex County Jail.
It was not clear if all 168 were still being detained.
