A New Jersey congressman is pushing for more funds to help clean up so-called "brownfield site" vacant lots across New Jersey.
Rep. Frank Pallone is pushing Congress to fill the Brownfield Fund with $350 million to be available for use by 2017.
Rep. Pallone and some environmental advocates held a media event in Asbury Park Friday because the city will be getting a $500,000 grant from the EPA for brownfield sites in the town.
The sites in Asbury Park will be cleaned up and then new homes will be built. The goal is to bring families back to Asbury Park and create tax revenue, according to town officials.
There are currently 22,000 brownfield sites in New Jersey.
