Like all performing arts centers, Two River Theater in Red Bank will be closed for the foreseeable future, but this does not mean that performances have to stop.
Two River Theater will stream new readings of plays virtually, including “On Borrowed Time,” directed by theater legend Joel Grey and featuring Bebe Neuwirth.
“I had seen it. Honestly, Joel Grey asked me to do a reading of a play he was directing to help a theater company in New Jersey. I didn’t have to read it to say yes,” Neuwirth says.
The Tony and Emmy-award winning actress is best known for her role on “Cheers.” Neuwirth is also a Princeton native.
The theater is also streaming a new reading of the play “Your Blues Ain’t Sweet Like Mine,” which was previously performed at Two River. New Jersey-based actor Brandon Dirden is reprising his role in a story that tackles racial barriers and conflicts, which he says is especially relevant today.
“We continue to find ways, even through a pandemic or social unrest, to use theater as a tool to help us get to our next moment,” says Dirden.
Two River Theater has been shut down since March without earning any income. Tickets to view the virtual readings benefit the theater and several social causes.
More information about the performances can be found on the Two River Theater website.
