(04/21/06) RED BANK ? Police in Red Bank are attempting to keep pedestrians safe through a major education campaign.
The police department received funding from the Division of Highway and Traffic Safety for the program. In order to spread the word, uniformed officers are patrolling streets and handing out informative pamphlets to pedestrians not obeying the law. Police are also targeting drivers who don?t give pedestrians the right of way at crosswalks.
The police department is looking for a 25 percent reduction in pedestrian accidents by September. In addition to street patrols, officers will also give presentations to civic groups and schoolchildren.
