(AP) - Property tax rebates could become acasualty of New Jersey's sinking economy.
Gov. Jon S. Corzine says all options are on the table as hecrafts a 2010 budget, which will be introduced on March 10.
Corzine is looking to close a budget gap estimated at $6billion. Property tax rebates cost the state about $1.7 billion.
Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts Jr., D-Brooklawn, says cuttingproperty tax relief should be a last resort in New Jersey, whichhas the highest property taxes in the nation.
On Tuesday, the governor proposed a two-day furlough for stateworkers to help close this year's budget deficit. He's warned ofadditional cuts next year, but declined to say specifically whatwould be cut.
